The terroir
Limestone and clay-limestone from the Middle Jurassic: white oolite at the top of the slope, fossil-rich limestone at the foot. The slope faces east; below the village the orientation shifts and the soil becomes marlier.

A little history
The house of Vergy, the abbeys of Cîteaux and Tart and great Burgundian families shaped this vineyard. In 1855, Dr Lavalle wrote that its wine “lacks nothing”. In 1927, Morey added the name of its Grand Cru, Clos Saint-Denis, to its own.
- 1141The nuns of Tart found the Clos de Tart
- 1927Morey becomes Morey-Saint-Denis
- 1981Clos des Lambrays becomes a Grand Cru
In the glass
Ruby to garnet, black fruit and cherry, violet, liquorice; with age, game, leather, truffle. Round, generous tannins, between the build of Gevrey and the finesse of Chambolle.
